I was a kid when I read Valérian & Laureline comic (translated into Indonesian). I instantly fell in love with Valérian and thought Laureline was badass. For a while, he became my template for the ideal man: athletic with dark, full hair, and a sense of reckless confidence.

A few years down the line, I took French lessons and the bibliothèque had a full collection of Valérian et Laureline. And since the books were in French, they were uncensored and I remember seeing dicks and butts.

The images below are from Valérian & Laureline: On the False Earths (#7). Promo blurb:

A spatio-temporal agent is always ready to give his… lives… for the mission?!

Valerian, shot to death in an Indian fortress. Valerian, dead in 19th century London. Valerian, gunned down in San Francisco’s Chinatown… And Laureline, paired up with an unpleasantly arrogant historian from Galaxity, forced to witness every demise of the man she loves on a succession of re-enacted pieces of human history. A very strange case that will take the two spatio-temporal agents to the limits of their endurance as they hunt down the mysterious architect of the false Earths….

If you’ve never read Valérian & Laureline, I encourage you to read the book that inspired Star Wars and countless other works of science fiction.

Also, as much as I love Luc Besson, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is… not interesting enough. Dane Dehaan just didn’t do it for me. I wish it were young Vincent Cassel. Imagine all those sexy Vincent Cassel clones just running around naked, dicks flopping everywhere.
