Here’s why Marc Debauch is by far my favorite Western fine homoerotic artist.
Sure, his work is sexy. That’s a given. Afterall, homoerotica is Marc’s niche. But what makes his work stand out isn’t just the sexiness of the men in his pieces. It’s the total fearlessness.
Unlike others who produced a lot of fetish work (like Bill Schmelling/The Hun, Oliver Frey, Logan, Michael Kirwan, or Julius), Marc didn’t hold back. Tom of Finland, Dom Orejudos (aka Stephen aka Etienne), and Mike Kuchar toyed with this taboo by teasing the audience through panels that don’t go all the way.

It’s the opposite with straight artists. In fact, there are instances when bestiality (a male animal and a human woman) is in mainstream comic books.
Milo Manara did a whole graphic novel of a man transformed into a donkey and goes into full bestiality mode with human women in Golden Ass (published in 2016 in French by Les Humanoïdes Associés and later the same year in English by its Los Angeles branch).
Then there’s Dicks where you get to see a male donkey with a woman.
And don’t get me started on the TV show Family Guy. Brian may be a talking dog, but he’s still a dog. And he pursues relationships with human women instead of female dogs.
There’s an allusion to gay bestiality (a male horse topping a human man) in David Lapham and German Nobile’s Caligula (published in 2011 by Avatar Press), but unlike Manara’s Golden Ass, Caligula doesn’t show actual intercourse.

The panels alluded to the horse topping Felix. The black rectangles are there to hide the blood and gore.
It’s also interesting that the artist Roscoe put bestiality (a male donkey with a woman) in his straight porn comic The Adventures of Lilly but not a single instance of gay bestiality in his gay series The Adventures of Timmy (although the gay comic features other taboos like incest).
Japanese artists such as Tagame Gengorō and Fujimoto Gō seem to have more freedom when it comes to featuring taboo fetishes including bestiality. (See Tagame’s Shirogane no Hana/The Silver Flower vol. 3 and Daruma Kenpei/Amputee Military Policeman, and Fujimoto’s Okinawa Slave Island vol. 10.)
The only other fine homoerotic artists who put bestiality in their work are Rex and Felix d’Eon. However, unlike Marc who still features the raunchy pieces on his website, Rex doesn’t seem to have his taboo works on his official site, and d’Eon social media channels are pretty tame. There are unfinished drawings by Sean/John Klamik of men and dogs, but they’re exactly that: unfinished.
October 24 is Debauch’s birthday. So, I thought I’d do an homage by reimagining my favorite painting by Marc called “Brads and Clyde” (2008, gouache on paper).
I wanted to change things up, so I turned Steve (the white stallion) into a unicorn. And instead of a man with a cowboy hat and boots, it’s Derek in a faun costume while Chrissy’s a nymph to go with the theme.
