Chrissy takes his shoes from the front door and pulls them on. The bedroom is off-limits to outdoor shoes, but he can’t risk the pause today. If he stops to lace up in the living room after taking his bag, Matt might follow and start pestering him again. So Chrissy breaks the rule, their rule, and walks back into the bedroom with his shoes on. Why does he care? He won't be sleeping in the room anymore anyway. Besides, Aubrey has tainted the space when he came in the bedroom, and even laid on the bed, with his boots on.

As he grabs his duffel bag, Chrissy locks eyes with Matt, who's sobbing and choking on his breath, unable to say or do anything, except to plead with his eyes.

Chrissy wants to hug him, to tell him he'd be okay. They'd be okay. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday. Somehow. But now? Now he needs to get the hell out.

He sighs, steels himself, turns around, and walks away.

By this time, Chrissy's duffel bag is already heavy and full of clothes. He turns around but almost trips on the kneeling Matt. Matt staggers backward.

"Dammit! Could you please just get up?"

Matt sits on the bed without saying anything. Chrissy's heart breaks even more when he sees the face of the man he loves is also drenched in tears. He knows Matt hardly cries.

"Don't think of following me, don't think of texting me or calling me. I'll grab the rest of my stuff in the daytime, and I don't want to see you here. Stay at your job or at Aubrey's or whatever the hell you do during the day. Just... don't be here."

"Christopher, please..."

Torrents of tears fall out as Chrissy closes his eyes. It's been years since Matt called him that, and less than an hour ago, Wade called him by his full first name too.

That brief, lucid moment punches Chrissy in the gut. He realizes he was just in Matt's place, only with Wade and Manuel. His heart melts. Maybe he's mistaken about Matt and Aubrey, the way Manuel is mistaken about Takeshi and him? But again, what about Matt's promise to never contact Aubrey again after the fight they had on Halloween? What about the interview? What about the red roses? What about the goddamn gummies?

"Can you not be here when I pick up the rest of my things?"

Matt nods his head, defeated.

The bedroom door is wide open, but the cats are too scared to come in because of all the shouting. Chrissy runs out into the living room. He hurriedly gathers his laptop and gadgets and stuffs them in his tote. As the cats bound over to gather around his feet, Chrissy kneels and kisses each of them goodbye. His heart breaks even more, knowing this could be the last time he sees them.

"Chrissy, please..." Matt tries again. He reaches out to Chrissy, trying to hold him.

"I told you not to touch me!" Chrissy swats Matt's hands.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, please..." Matt kneels next to Chrissy. "At least tell me where you're going. Where will you stay? Wade's?"

The mention of Wade stabs Chrissy's heart. His cheeks are scalding hot, and so are the tears that drench them. "No. Wade and I... We're done. He... We agreed that for him to move on, we need to cut off contact with him. He blocked our numbers on his phone."

"Wh... What? When?"

"Oh, like maybe half an hour ago."

"Then... Manu?"

"They think Takeshi and I've been sleeping their back. Someone took photos of us in the gym locker room, looking like we're flirting and touching each other."

"Have... you?"

"Have I what?"

"With Takesh..."

"No. And screw you for even asking that."

"No, no, no, that's not... I mean, it wouldn't matter even if you did... I'm sorry..."

"Well, it matters. It matters because Manu wants me to leave both of them alone."

"Babydoll, please just... Just stay here tonight and we'll figure something out tomorrow, yeah? I can sleep on the couch. Please?"

Matt jumps off the bed. "Babydoll, it's... It's not what it looks like. I did go to work this morning, but my phone was..." Matt reaches out, wanting to comfort his fiancé.

"Don't touch me!" Chrissy balks.

Aubrey only laughs amidst all the chaos.

"You!" Chrissy says. "It's always you! It's always been you!"

"Guilty as charged." Aubrey stretches his naked body before slinking off the bed to get his dress shirt. "Really took you a while to catch on. What did you say, Matt? 'Oh, the poor thing, the poor dumb thing.'"

Chrissy looks at Matt. It sounds exactly like the Linda Belcher quote Matt loves to say.

"What?" Matt says. "It's 'you poor dumb thing.' And I would never say that about Chrissy."

"Yeah? What else didn't you say, Matt? Let me guess, that you and I didn't contact each other? That it wasn't you I thanked in my interview? That it was you who got him the two dozen red roses last time you had a fight? And also today?"

"Whuh... huh?" is the only thing Chrissy can say. It was Matt in the article. He knew it, he called it. Matt might have denied it and Chrissy might have let it go, but in the end, Chrissy was right.

But the red roses?

"Oh, Matt..." Aubrey clicks his tongue. "Did you even tell him you've been taking my Nebuluxe CBD gummies to get you hard?"

Chrissy feels his heart stop. He remembers his conversation with Gar in the locker room. Did Gar know about the supplement? It felt like Gar wanted to tell him something, but kept holding back.

Chrissy walks in the front door, flustered, ready to cry again. He's sticky and icky from sweat and leaning against a filthy dumpster. But then he sees a bouquet of red roses on the credenza.

"Oh, Matt," Chrissy says to himself. The weight of losing Wade, then Manuel and Takeshi in a blink of an eye feels less and less heavy.

But where is Matt? If he's at home, why hasn't he responded to Chrissy's texts? Matt promised Chrissy he wouldn't be too attached to his phone anymore, so maybe that's why?

The bedroom door is closed, and Chrissy doesn't hear running water in the bathroom. George Meowchel emerges from behind the sofa, stretching as Chrissy picks him up. His purrs help calm Chrissy's nerves.

"Where's Daddy, Georgy?" Chrissy takes off his shoes and tiptoes to the bedroom. He wants to surprise Matt and give him tons of kisses for the roses.

An uneasiness blooms in the pit of Chrissy's gut when he notices a red bag on top of his laptop.

Today has been an absolute clusterf*ck and he barely has the energy to drag his feet to the other side of the apartment. As he approaches the bedroom door, he can hear muffled voices. The knot in his stomach tightens.

He closes his eyes, inhales, and turns the doorknob.

"What. The f*ck." Chrissy drops George Meowchel, who quickly scampers away into the living room.

Matt turns his body around to see Chrissy standing in their bedroom.

"Hey, loser," Aubrey says, grinning from ear to ear.

Chrissy blinks. He can't believe how right Aubrey is, but he ignores him and looks at Matt instead. "Is this why you said you couldn't go to the ice cream social? I texted you but you didn't answer and I didn't call you because I thought you were at work!"

Matt jumps off the bed. "Babydoll, it's... It's not what it looks like. I did go to work this morning, but my phone was..." Matt reaches out, wanting to comfort his fiancé.

Matt swallows hard. "What... No. No, Aubrey, please. I... I really can't do this. We can't."

"Last time I was here, you said you had issues getting it up," Aubrey slinks toward Matt. "Still have the same problem?"

"Please, please stop. I'm... I love Chrissy. And you're engaged to Marcus."

But that doesn't deter Aubrey from extending his hand and cupping Matt's crotch. "My, my, you're hard as a diamond. So glad we've fixed that."

Matt grabs Aubrey's wrist. "No!"

"You're so hot when you're playing hard to get," Aubrey says and kisses Matt.

This takes Matt by surprise. Aubrey's lips are soft and tender and the cocoa butter scent in Aubrey's hair is heady and making Matt weak.

"N... no," Matt says and breaks off the kiss. "I... I gotta go. And you need to leave. Please, I can't..."

"You can," Aubrey says. "The proof is in the pudding. This... hard pudding." Aubrey strokes Matt's crotch through the fabric of his pants.

"No!" Matt wants to get Aubrey away from him, but Aubrey's left hand is wrapped behind Matt's head. They both lose their balance and land on the bed, Matt on top of Aubrey.

It takes everything in Matt's power not to flinch. "Aw, no. I mean, I helped a bit."

"A bit? Matt, you practically came up with the name. Let's not be modest. It's not a good look."

Matt chuckles. "I... I guess."

"And how long did the effect last?"

"Uh... I was... aggro all day. Starting from the fight with Chrissy in the morning before work. And I tried so hard to contain myself at the office. Like, I was so full of anger. My heart was pounding. I paced around like a madman. At around eleven, I couldn't take it anymore and went home. It wasn't fun driving with road rage. I still can't believe I made it to work and back home again in one piece. I did end up eating something around twelve thirty, but I think it wasn't until two pm that I could finally feel calmer. And uh, I apologized to Chrissy."

"Uh-huh. And what time did you eat the gummy in the morning?" Aubrey types on his pad.

"Uh, maybe around seven? Then seven-ten or seven-fifteen for the espresso."

"Hmm, that's... a pretty long-lasting effect. I mean, this data is encouraging for Nebuluxe itself, but I suppose adding the espresso really messed things up." Aubrey's Pad dings again, and he smiles. "Okay, I think that should be enough. I didn't want to do this over email or text or phone. It'd just seem so... impersonal. Anyway, you said you were going somewhere?"

"Oh, uh, yeah... I was. But I have to find something nice to put on first. I'm picking up Chrissy in a bit and I booked a table at a fancy place."

"I could help you decide which clothes you should wear," Aubrey says. "I'm good with that."

"Yeah, I... I suppose so. OK, let me just uh, grab them from the bedroom." Matt stands up.

"Sure," Aubrey grins.

Matt nods.

"And, do you remember how long after consuming the yellow gummy that you had the espresso?"

Matt thinks for a bit. "Maybe ten to fifteen minutes? I remember chewing the gummy while prepping the machine, so..."

"One gummy?" Aubrey taps on his Pad.

"Yeah, just one. Look, I really need to g..."

"And did you eat anything else between the gummy and the espresso?"

"Uh... No? I've been doing intermittent fasting. So, coffee first thing in the morning after waking up, then I have my first meal at two pm. One yellow gummy and a cup of joe give me jitters, but they last five minutes tops. And then, I'll have energy until lunchtime. That day, I thought I needed more, so I decided to have espresso instead."

Aubrey's Pad dings, and Matt sees just a glint of glee on Aubrey's face. Matt's not sure if he likes the look of that smile.

"Is... Is everything okay?" Matt says.

"Huh?" Aubrey says, still looking at his Pad. "Oh, yeah. It's... good news. My sales team emailed me and said we just sold our thousandth jar."

"Oh, wow, that's... amazing! That's huge! Congrats!"
